Fall Settles In On The Farm

CIMG5862, originally uploaded by leathej1.

It looks like preparations for winter are taking place back on the farm. I used to hate getting the wood in. My grandfather would drag me out into the forest, he'd cut down a tree, and we'd tow it down to the field for cutting and splitting. Usually, the log would end up on top of some part of my person from time to time, and there was a lot of lifting. But now I look back on those times fondly. But I still hate getting in the wood.

Finally, Some Shade

DSC00474, originally uploaded by leathej1.

Actually, it had more to do with the HOA sending letters around about having to have 2 trees and 6 shrubs as a minimum for landscaping in the front. But we also needed some shade on the East side of the house. Click the pic for the full sequence of shots, which I started taking at 6:30 am, which is way to damn early for photography.

I also added more garden pics.

Let's Try This Again

Leatherman's Second Chance Garden Recipe

2 bales of peat moss
4 bags of steer manure
3 bags of garden soil

Mix well with the concrete we call "soil", which took 3 days of work to break up. Water down to allow settling. Leave a day or so, and then start planting (photos will be posted, I assure you).

Comedy of Errors at Mesa Arts Center - Southwest Shakespeare Company

Wow - I have put a lot of hours into these rehearsals. That's how you have come to find me with no blog entries in 6 weeks. Well, things are going well now, seeing as we are finally doing performances. Audiences are getting a big kick out of the slapstick and sight gags, and we are getting the right laughs in the right places. Click on the pic to get an exclusive backstage view of the show.

Or run is September 17-October 3, 2009. For show details, go to ShowUp.com

Nicholas Kenji Thornton

Rieko and Tim had a fine red-haired (wait, what?) baby boy early on Friday morning. Nicholas Kenji Thornton was born at 12:08 am on July 24, 2009, and weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz., and measured 21.25 in. long. Mom was induced at 11 am, and was finally ready to deliver at around 11:30 pm. After 30 min., Kenji made his appearance. After his first meal, we left Mom, Dad and baby for home at 3 am.

Transformers: In Defense of the Fallen

Well, I stick by my guns. I loved Transformers 2, and it probably has to do with the fact that I like big, acrobatic ass-kicking robots, shiny objects and loud noises. And I loved them as a kid. This movie is what I would have wanted to see if I were daydreaming in 1984.
